Building a Rabbit Hutch and Chick Brooder

Last week I acquired 7 baby chicks and 2 rabbits.
It all started with wanting to get 2 baby bunnies for my girls for Easter.
I then found a rabbit cage for FREE.
But to get the cage I had to take the rabbit that lived in it :)
I had originally planned to just let the rabbit out (shhhhh)
But she was SO SWEET, I could not let her go.
SO I changed the plan of having 2 baby bunnies
to 1 LARGE rabbit and 1 baby bunny.
I had to add a hutch (and stand) to the cage to make it work outside.
I just used old wood we had stored in the barns.
(I tell the hubs it is worth saving, he doesn't usually see my vision)
Here are some of the progress pictures.
I snapped some pictures with my phone, sorry they are not the best quality!
I was too busy excited to run and grab my camera.

Then the next day we had to dig a new frost free hydrant.
Which of course meant a runt to town to get supplies.
We stopped in at the farm store and it was “CHICK DAYS”.
I did not intend to buy any but…..well….I’m a sucker! :)
So…..we left with 5 rainbow layers.
I quickly made up a chick brooder for them.
It was so easy!!!!
I used….
An old screen from a discontinued window display (from the lumber yard)
Old tote
Nuts
Bolts
Washers
I simply cut out the top of the tote (I didn’t cut straight).
Then drilled holes through the screen and tote lid.
Slipped in the bolts, washers and nuts.
DONE!!!

Where did the other 2 chicks come from????
WELL….the hubs surprised me with 2 little black bantam cochen chicks the next day.
He knew I’d love them...AND I DO!!!
They are such pretty birds, Not the best layers but that’s ok with me
(I have others for that).

Here are some of my recent Instagram pictures.

Bridal Shower Decor {rustic style}

Last week I posted pictures of my brothers and his soon to be bride’s engagement pictures.
I had the honor of helping host a bridal shower.
I received the job of decorating.
YAY!  I love that job.
But I am a procrastinator.
So the week of the shower I started to think about how to decorate.
I live in rural Nebraska.
The closest Walmart or Hobby lobby is over an hour away.
I decided to search my house.
Remember I throw nothing away, so grabbed…..
glass jars
tin cans
coffee beans
tapper candles
votives
matchstick placemats
old tin
engagements photos.

This is what I came up with for table decorations.
(they were centers on round tables)
I used my tin shearers that the hubs bought me for Christmas
to cut the tin into “L” and HEART shapes.
I used tin hearts as a “coaster” for some of the votive candles.
Filled jars with coffee beans to hold tapper candles.
Slipped the photos into the jars the same way I did HERE.

My sister had picked up the green table covers and the green balls on the tables.
She also grabbed a bouquet of daisies for me.
Thanks Sis!

I was pleased with how it all turned out.
It was a hit,  and who doesn’t like photos!

My bathroom

I LOVE TO DECORATE BATHROOMS!
Bathrooms are (usually) small and fairly cheap to decorate.
(I said decorate NOT remodel, remodeling a bathroom is NOT CHEAP!)
A little goes a long way so in a bath!!!
AND it comes together quickly.
I AM NOT PATIENT person…so I really like quick instant gratification projects!
Here is a peek into my bathroom.
(It is not a new project, but it is one of my favorite rooms I the house)

I found this old ladder on top of a shed at my grandparents!
***LOVE***
It is perfect to hold towels.
We had this large boring mirror (across from the vanity) when we moved in.
I hate it at first but then realized how practical it was.
It is so handy to have so I left it and tried to “spruce it up”.
It looks better now.
I really wanted to put a frame around it but the outlet is RIGHT BELOW IT!
The candle holder is just made with 2 pieces of wood screwed together!
Above the toilet I hung a shelf (that I painted white).
Filled it with some old mason jars, vases, towels, and pictures.
I then attached a towel holder to an old window.
This window is perfect because it has old latches that work perfect for washcloths.
I hung a rusty metal star (off centered) over the window.
And the bathroom is done for now.
Quick, easy, and cheap.
My next project is to change out the UGLY light fixture….
